Golden Whip Stream Located in eastern part of the park, Golden Whip Stream was named after Golden Whip Rock. Merged with Pipa Stream, Golden Whip Stream flows into Suoxi Stream. It covers a flowing of 7.5 km along which you can have a hiking.Golden Whip Stream (Jinbian Stream) is famous for its pristine water, its verdant mountains, its steep cliffs and its serene valley. As a veritable “paradise” for plants, its pathways are adorned by an abundance of flowers, trees, and grasses. It is also a very deep and quiet winding stream where can be seen many green hills and colorful flora and the song of birds can be heard. The 7 kilometer long stream is one of the most charming features of the scenery of Zhangjiajie. It has been called “The Most Beautiful Valley in the World.”
The main spots
Mother and Chlid Peak: In the tranquil and deep vally lies a medium-size peak, which takes on the form of a mother tenderly embracing her slumbering child. We can even imagine the happy smiles on her face. Who is to say that stone feels no emotion, but is only cold and indifferent? Look carefully! This stone figure seems to be as real as a flesh and blood mother, one so tender and affectionate. Truly, "to show filial piety to one's parents takes precedence over any other good deed." Under no cricumstances must we"marry a wife while forgetting mother".
Golden Whip Rock: Rising more than 300 meters from the vally, this massive crag ,with its sharp edges and clearly defined joints, looks as if it is a long whip stabbing the earth and rising high into the clouds at the same time. Bathed in the glow of the setting sun, this impressive peak sparkles and seems to be transformed into a golden whip, hence the name,Golden Whip Rock.
From the geological standpoint, this rock is even more fascinating. According to scientific research, Golden Whip Rock is the highest and most regular column-like rockin the world. Druing the Devotion Period, 380 million years ago, the earth crust of this region sunk and became a part of the ocean. The continuously inflowing water carried much soft material down, deposited, pressed, and cemented, which developed into sandstone layer with the silicate material in the sea water. During the Permian Period, that is 285 miilion years ago, the sandstone layer rose up as the crust up-heaved, but there are still a calcium layer of earth covered the sandstone. Druing the Triassic Period, 200 million years ago, because of the violate epeirogentic movement in the area, the earth crust mounted up steadily and finally came out. For the constant effect of water,wind, and gravity,the sandstone layer developed into all these imposing peaks and rocks, and finally presents us the miraculous natural scenery. Without and doubt,Golden Whip Rock is the masterpiece of magic nature.
Golden Whip Stream Scenic Area is a golden tourist area in Zhangjiajie with a total length of 5,700 meters. Located in the east of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, named after the 380-meter high Golden Whip Rock, Golden Whip Stream meanders 7.5 kilometers. Flowing from Laomo Gully first to Confluence of Four Rivers then to Suoxi Stream, it finally joins Li river, one of the four rivers in Hunan Province. It flows between steep grotesque peaks and luxuriant trees. Here, the meandering streams, the crystal-clear waterfalls, exotic plants and rare animals co-exist and constitute the extraordinarily beautiful, tranquil and natural ecological environment. No wonder it is called "the most beautiful valley in the world" and "the most poetic stream". The major scenic spots include Rock of Welcoming Guests, Golden Whip Rock, Reunion Rock and the Purple Grass Pond.
